Northern Territory
Northern Territory
For many people, the Northern Territory is the very essence of Australia. The vast redgold desert of the Red Centre contrasts with the wetlands that teem with the native wildlife of the Top End. Darwin, the capital, is the gateway to World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. Alice Springs, Australia’s most famous Outback town, is in the heart of Central Australia and gateway to adventurous activities.
When to go
Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Alice Springs have desert climates. Autumn and spring will give you sunny days with cloudless skies and cool, crisp nights. December to February are the hottest months with temperatures reaching 39°C. The cooler winter months of May to September see temperatures at a more comfortable maximum of 20°C. Darwin has two seasons; tropical summer during November to April and tropical winter from May to October. It’s warm all year round, but summer is wetter and winter is dry. Winter (May-Oct) is the best time for the top end.
